An Education, Brothers, Despicable Me, Percy Jackson & Olympians: Lightning Thief, Broken Embraces
An Education HD480p 48MB HD720p 118MB HD1080p 178MBComing-of-age story about a teenage girl (Carey Mulligan) in 1960s suburban London, and how her life changes with the arrival of a playboy nearly twice her age (Peter Sarsgaard). Also part of the excellent cast are Alfred Molina, Dominic Cooper, Rosamund Pike, Olivia Williams, Emma Thompson and Sally Hawkins. Directed by Lone Scherfig (
Wilbur Wants to Kill Himself,
Italian for Beginners), screenplay by Nick Hornby.
Movie got pretty good reviews in Sundance which are now backed up by a wonderful, moody trailer. There's already some Oscar talk.
Brothers HD480p 41MB HD720p 100MBIntense family drama directed by Jim Sheridan (
In the Name of the Father,
My Left Foot,
The Boxer). When a decorated Marine (Tobey Maguire) goes missing overseas, his black-sheep younger brother (Jake Gyllenhaal) cares for his wife (Natalie Portman) and children at home. Things get complicated when the brother unexpectedly returns.
Permit me to rant a little. This is a
remake of a Danish movie of the same name that won prizes at film festivals all over the world made by renowned director Susanne Bier (
After the Wedding,
Things We Lost in the Fire) and it starred internationally well-known actors Nikolaj Lie Kaas, Ulrich Thomsen and Connie Nielsen. I guess there's always the chance that there will be Oscar nominations but so far it looks to me as if Hollywood just remade a good but bleak drama that only a few people saw as a good but bleak drama that still only very few people will watch. Not quite the same level as Michael Haneke remaking his own movie shot-for-shot, but still. It makes you wonder.
Despicable Me HD480p 47MB HD720p 122MBA first trailer for this animated comedy. The summary reads: In a happy suburban neighborhood surrounded by white picket fences with flowering rose bushes, sits a black house with a dead lawn. Unbeknownst to the neighbors, hidden beneath this home is a vast secret hideout. Surrounded by a small army of minions, we discover Gru (Steve Carell), planning the biggest heist in the history of the world. He is going to steal the moon. But a trio of orphan girls cause the normally deplorable Gru to rethink his plan. Jason Segel, Russell Brand, Will Arnett, Kristen Wiig, Danny McBride, Jack McBrayer and Julie Andrews will also lend their voices. To be released July
next year.
Trailer mainly consists of one scene but is quite effective (though what is it with Hollywood and the pyramids lately). Could be fun.
Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief HD480p 29MB HD720p 52MBFirst teaser for this fantasy adventure based on the books by Rick Riordan. It's about a young boy (Logan Lerman) who discovers he's the descendant of Poseidon (Kevin McKidd) and sets out on a quest in present-day America to rescue his mother (Catherine Keener), return Zeus' (Sean Bean) stolen lightning bolt and prevent a civil war from erupting among the gods. Other gods will be played by Pierce Brosnan, Uma Thurman, Melina Kanakaredes, Rosario Dawson and Steve Coogan. Directed by Chris Columbus (
Home Alone,
Mrs. Doubtfire,
Rent,
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone).
Teaser reveals close to nothing, but that sure sounds pretty interesting. Though I suspect this will be a very
family-friendly movie which will probably remove some of the possible fun. Set for release next February.
Broken Embraces - Los Abrazos rotos 24 MBEqually intense UK trailer version (with sound a bit off) for Pedro Almodóvar's (
Volver,
Talk to Her,
Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown) new movie. The description reads: It's a four-way tale of amour-fou, shot in the style of '50s American film noir at its most hard-boiled, and will mix references to works like Nicholas Ray's "In a Lonely Place" and Vincente Minnelli's "The Bad and the Beautiful," with signature Almodóvar themes such as fate, the mystery of creation, guilt, unscrupulous power, the eternal search of fathers for sons, and sons for fathers.
You know, the usual. It once again stars Penélope Cruz.
